Wedgewood Swim Club
Swim Team

The Wedgewood Swim Team is comprised of approximately 200 swimmers ranging in age from 5 to 18 years. They compete in the Southern Chester County Swim League. The team is split into competitive and developments squads. The season runs from June to end of July.

Our swim team goals include:

Making sure the swimmers have a fun and rewarding experience
Developing strong team spirit
Teaching swimmers solid fundamentals

2010 Practice

New for 2010

All swimmers who are NEW to the swim team must attend swim team tryouts on June 1^st thru 3^rd.

All swimmers 9 and under must also attend tryouts for the coaches evaluation and proper placement, even if your swimmer had competed on the team last year.

All RETURNING swimmers 10 and older, please begin the 2010 season by going to the practice for the level that you finished the 2009 season at. The coaches will decide when you are ready to change levels.

Please note that practices will only be cancelled if it is pouring rain. If it is cold and drizzling, come prepared for dry-land practice.

The following placement guidelines are for your reference. Final placement will be determined by the coaches.

GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR PLACEMENT

Competitive

Competitive team swimmers should be capable of continuous lateral breathing on freestyle and should be able to complete a 25 without stopping of freestyle and backstroke. Coaches will evaluate strength of kick, ability to do other strokes, in addition to assess competitive team placement. Coaches may suggest competitive team complimented with stroke clinics.

Developmental

Developmental swimmers should be able to swim freestyle with lateral breathing (no doggy paddle) and some backstroke. Consistency of breathing, strength of kick and body position will be considered for recommendation for lessons or competitive team.

Lessons

Lessons are intended for those swimmers who need instructional help to master lateral breathing freestyle and meet pre-team level. Additional private lessons are also available for all levels

All level placements will be as determined by the coaches and may consider other strengths and assessment indicators in addition to the above.

The 2010 Competitive Team practice schedule is:

From June 1st through June 18th - Monday through Friday (no Saturday practices):

A. 13 and older - from 4:00-5:15pm (includes dryland from 5:15-5:45pm)

B. 11-12 yr old - from 5:15-6:15pm (includes dryland from 6:15-6:45pm)

C. 10 yr and younger - from 6:15 - 7pm (includes dryland from 5:45 – 6:15pm) Mon/Wed/Fri

Starting June 22rd - Monday through Friday

A. 13 and older - from 8:00 - 9:45 am

B. 11-12 yr olds - from 9:30 - 10:45 am

C. 10 and under - from 10:30 - 11:30 am

The 2010 Developmental Team practice June 7^th – 18th:

6:15 - 7pm (includes dryland from 5:45 – 6:15pm) Tuesday & Thursday

Starting June 22rd - Monday through Friday:

Level A practice from 9:00 - 9:50 am

Level B practice from 9:50 - 10:30 am.

The following is a summary of Developmental Levels:
A. Developmental Level A is for swimmers who have mastered freestyle and backstroke, using good stroke technique and breathing habits. Swimmers at this level will begin to master breaststroke and butterfly techniques.
B. Developmental Level B is for swimmers who have a good foundation in freestyle and backstroke, but who need some help with stroke technique and breathing habits.
